General Conference!!!
“It’s good to have questions, better to write them down, best to write them down and ponder and study them.”
I came to conference with 5 questions. I’m definitely receiving answers! It’s so cool. I love conference. I also thought before that taking notes was a distraction...i think I just didn’t know how to take notes. Because wow it definitely makes the spirit way better. I’ve figured it out!.....for now.
Also, after that talk in Priesthood session about being called to serve, and assigned to labor…..everyone came up to me and was like, “Elder Dick! Did you hear that talk that was just for you?!” Oh, thanks guys. Really? Meant for me? Super hope y’all at least TRIED to apply it to yourself! It had way more implications than just me! Than just missionaries! It was good though.
I absolutely LOVED Brother Clayton’s talk in the Morning Session. He literally just taught the missionary lesson of the Plan of Salvation, but he did it SO WELL.
And then the talk by Russell M. Nelson in the Morning Session about accessing the power of Christ in our lives. He, an apostle for years, had his life changed just in 6 weeks of studying about Jesus Christ...well shoot you better believe I’m going to start studying a little harder! He said something like, “When you want the power of Christ, when you fight for it like you’d fight to breathe, then you’ll feel it.” And that struck me. How many times do I get home, and it’s already really late and all I want to do is fall asleep, so I say a half-hearted prayer just so I can lay down quicker? All too many. Is that the kind of person who really needs help? Not really. That’s the kind of person who isn’t showing they care very much. I want Christ’s help. I need to work for it.
And then the Afternoon Session…..
Robert D. Hales - all he talked about was chapter 6 of PMG! Developing Christlike attributes. Seriously, I think all these people do is flip open the missionary materials and speak on whatever catches their eye haha.
But Jeffrey R. Holland….his talk took on a whole new view of things. Songs that are sung and unsung…..what a cool concept. How accurate. Songs some cannot sing, some don’t want to sing. It was just good.
Neil L. Anderson - All I thought about was making a plaque for my future home that reads, “These are they who are overcoming the world”
M. Russell Ballard- there’s a planning method missionaries use. It’s called VGP. Vision, goal, plans. Thanks Elder Ballard for showing me how to use it when I get home!
Also, thanks for making the whole “studying Christ” part easier by telling me to study The Living Christ.
Priesthood Session!
President Monson - The most beautiful talk on being kind.
And then the SONS OF THUNDER by President Uchtdorf!
And lastly i loved the closing talk of President Eyring which was also about getting to know Jesus Christ. Kind of a theme through this conference...get to know the Savior better.
