11/9/16

A day in the life of an Elder:
AKA:What I did yesterday

6:15AM - Woke up, prayed, and ran for roughly 30 minutes

7:00AM - Got home, and took a shower and ate breakfast yum

8:00AM - Personal study. Since our day is filled with teaching people about our church, and bringing people closer to Christ. When I study, I think about these people we are going to teach that day, and what they need to learn and hear about Christ and our Gospel. There's no sense in teaching them about how and why our church doesn't drink coffee on a day when they're really struggling with a recent death in the family!

9:00AM - Companion Study. We study together, and discuss what we will teach those we meet with today and how we will go about teaching it.  This is super cool because you get to see how inspired your thoughts are about the people you have planned, because your companion has the same ideas! That just confirms the hand of the Lord in the lives of these people.

10:00AM - Language Study. Basically an hour of DuoLingo, and practicing church terms in portuguese haha. Nothing too special, but it really REALLY helps during the day.

11:00AM - Lunch!

12:00AM - We head out the door, into the world, to talk about Jesus! Because we teach Brazilians in the US, they are always out working construction or other various jobs until 5 or 6pm. So this is the time we use to go knocking on doors or meeting with members of our church or providing service to others.  We raked a bunch of members lawns yesterday. There are TONS of leaves everywhere in Connecticut, and I never realized how long it took to rake leaves! People in North Carolina, you are blessed.  This time is also filled with trying to find other people who might be interested in learning about our church or more about Christ!  Which usually ends with a bunch of slammed doors, and mean words. But that's okay:)

5:00PM - Dinner! Hopefully with someone who wants to learn about our church, so we can teach them. Or with a member, so we can bless their lives, and help them in their efforts to share the gospel.

6:00PM - From here until 9 we usually have scheduled meetings with those who are investigating our church.  We teach them all sorts of topics about Christ and about the Gospel.  These meetings are great because all of the teaching we do is completely focused around the Holy Ghost. We can teach anything, but if the person doesn't feel the Holy Ghost testifying to them, then it really doesn't matter!  At the end of every lesson we leave them with a challenge. Sometimes it's to pray and search for an answer to what we taught, or to do a specific thing.  Lessons have no use if we don't activate what we are taught!

9:00PM - We return to our house, and commence planning for the next day. Scheduling appointments, rough outlines of lessons, and whatnot.  This time really makes a huge difference in our day the next day.

10:30PM - Bed time!

Praying for y'all! Love ya!

Elder Dick
