Today started with district meeting. Elder Lindberg and I were asked to role-play with the Zone leaders the topic “Use the Book of Mormon to respond to objections” Objections like, “I don't believe in the word of wisdom.”  As we started the role-play, it was completely different than expected. The investigator we were teaching, his “objection” was completely vague. He just talked about how hard his life was, and work and his family and how he was tired and he had problems with family and no time and blah blah blah. Well….that was honestly the most accurate potrayal of how people treat us and our how our lessons go so it was really special for us to be in that circumstance, in that role play, to receive that special inspiration on how to handle those objections. 

I learned a lot about the power of teaching to someone’s needs. Sometimes that’s just helping them find the desire to open the Book of Mormon every night. They need help realizing what they need help with in their life. I learned that today. Cool.

We went to City Island today and met with a less-active part member family. The husband is not a member. But he is an underwater welder. Man that guy is insanely cool. Born in New York, grew up in Puerto Rico spear-fishing and free-diving. Came back here, got married and still does all this insanely cool stuff. He showed us all this cool stuff he found all over the world on these jobs he worked. Some in Angola Africa, a bunch from the Northeast coast. Cool stuff. It was like walking into the Maritime museum in Beaufort when we got into their house! City Island is also really beautiful. It’s like Swansboro (with double the population) with a view of Manhattan. I’ll take pictures next time we go there! It is seriously gorgeous.

We had zone conference today and it was really awesome. I learned a lot of really really cool things. Like: Always remember and apply “Good, Better, Best” especially with making goals and plans. If you knew that any goal you set, you could achieve...what would your goals be? (Now remember that with God, all things are possible) Goal setting is an act of faith. Showing that you believe that God can and will help you accomplish it Only think about the Do’s. (For example: if your goal is to eat healthy, don't think “don't eat cookies, don't eat cookies” think instead, “okay I can eat salad and chicken and fruits and apples!) Become comfortable with being uncomfortable, especially in missionary work. If you're comfortable, you can probably work harder.

7/28/16 - Life in the MTC

Hey everyone! This week has been a spiritual strengthening one for sure.  On Sunday I got to sing with the MTC Choir as backup for the Nashville Tribute Band.  They sing gospel songs, like LDS gospel, and they're super country.  But their message is one that relates to any religion so y'all should look them up and listen to some!   The spiritual strengthening part of my week goes as thus: I've started holding myself accountable to Heavenly Father.  Like at the beginning of each day, in my prayers I'll tell Him my goals for the day,  like "study _____ in my language. Get ____ memorized.  Plan ____ lesson" things like that.  And then at the end of the day, I'll tell Him how I did.  Let me tell you, that's intimidating!  He certainly knows when you aren't living up to your potential.  It's only scary because I can hear Him tell me I didn't do well, and where and how I can do better, when I ask.  But when I do all that I can

Today I was on a split with Elder Nielson! I learned a lot from him today and it was really great. I learned about street contacting and the how-to's of that. I learned a lot about being bold and more confident. I've made goals now to improve my studies. As well as my memory. I feel that if I can have spiritual experiences every morning during personal and companionship study, I will be so much more spiritually prepared to take on the day and receive promptings throughout. And a better memory just because it would help.
